About the composer

Benjamin Walton is a writer, composer, music director, educator, dramaturge, and performer from Gainesville,
Georgia. He’s been based in Chicago for the past three years where he’s performed with Pride
Films and Plays and Chicago Kids Company, and music directed for the Chicago Musical
Theatre Festival, the Wilmette Children’s Theatre, and the Highland Park District. He’s worked
as an educator and private music instructor in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Benjamin
received his BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from the University of Central Florida with
minors in Music and Creative Writing. During his time there, he researched and wrote a thesis:
“Anything but Crazy: How American Musical Theatre Can Change Societal Stigmas Against
Mental Illnesses” including a performance of original music, working towards the
destigmatization of mental illnesses. Additional credits include Florida Festival of New
Musicals, Florida Repertory Theatre, and Gulf Coast Symphony. He is currently attending New York University's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program as a composer in Cycle 33.
