Published in November 2014, this first digital songbook gathers 20 original songs from the formative years of NYC composer-lyricist Joel B. New. At the time, Joel was ten years into his New York journey — a decade of chasing “yeses” and weathering “noes,” staging concerts in black box theatres, and learning how to tell stories that felt both deeply personal and wildly theatrical. The works from this period reflect a writer stretching into many directions at once: Depression-era melodrama, wedding-day chamber pieces, mythic rock operas, and modern digital-age song cycles. Together, they capture an artist still discovering his voice — but already driven to blend the intimate with the epic, the heartfelt with the humorous.

Joel B. New is the proud recipient of the American Theatre Wing’s Jonathan Larson Grant and MAC's John Wallowitch Award for his songwriting. His work has been seen and developed at Ars Nova, New York Theatre Barn, Prospect Theater Company, Musical Theatre Factory, Broadway au Carré in Paris, and the New York Musical Festival. Joel is the creator and host of “Something New,” which was named one of the Top 20 Podcasts for Theatre Fans by BroadwayWorld.com. He is also the Founding Teacher of Broadway Sip & Sing. Joel’s first solo EP Cabot Cove -- a collection of “theatre pop” songs inspired by the classic TV series Murder, She Wrote -- is available on Broadway Records.
